Google is making all efforts to provide a great mobile web experience to their users. To that end, Google posted on Nov 18th 2014 on their official webmaster blog where they introduced a new “mobile-friendly” label to our mobile search results.

According to Google, a page is eligible for the “mobile-friendly” label if it meets the following criteria as detected by Googlebot:
  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming
  • Sizes content to the screen so users don't have to scroll horizontally or zoom
  • Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
If you’re curious whether or not your website meets these criteria, Google has a mobile-friendly test that lets you know whether or not your website will get the label. We performed this test on one of our client's mobile website and found the following results

In addition to above change, Google is also experimenting with using the mobile-friendly criteria as a ranking signal. This will be a huge game changer for those who already have a mobile friendly website. For those who don't have one, please reach out to us and we will be happy to help.
